What does a Hair Scrub do?
Stimulates Hair Growth
Our hair needs a clean, healthy environment to grow, starting with the scalp. Using a hair scrub regularly can stimulate hair growth and encourage skin cell turnover.
Great for Dandruff Prevention
Exfoliating the scalp removes the barrier of dead skin cells covering your scalp. This allows your hair's natural oils to fully nourish the scalp to prevent dry flakes or dandruff.
Improves Hairs Natural Shine
Healthy hair = Shiny Hair! By removing the dead skin around the hair follicles, you allow your hair to grow in a healthy environment leading to an increase in natural shine!
Removes Product Buildup
Serums, hairspray, mousse, dry shampoo... the list of products we put in our hair is never-ending. Sometimes, shampoo alone doesn't quite cut it when trying to get rid of old hair products. Hair scrubs remove the buildup of products on our roots and scalp.
Makes your Products More Effective
As we mentioned before, dead skin cells create a barrier on your scalp, which makes it hard for your hair products to penetrate your roots and scalp. A hair scrub breaks down this barrier, so you will find that your haircare routine becomes more effective!
Types of Hair Scrubs
Just like for the skin, there are 2 main types of scalp exfoliators.
Physical Exfoliator
Physical exfoliators are a cream or gel base with particles or granules like salt, sugar or plant extracts. When massaged into the scalp, these granules lift the dead skin and impurities from the scalp so they can be washed away. Physical exfoliators are generally suitable for all hair types, but be cautious if you've got a sensitive scalp.
Chemical Exfoliator
Chemical exfoliators are perfect if you have a sensitive scalp. Rather than granules, these exfoliators contain acids like Glycolic, Salicylic and Lactic Acid, which dissolve or 'eat away' at dead skin and impurities. The acids do all the work here, so you don't need to massage them into your scalp, which reduces the chance of irritation.
